October 13, 2010

Focus today was on Heritage Night .
Set the date, February 17th
Heather  to get it on the office calendar and talk to Katrina about a wonderful Philippine opportunity her husband has offered.
Set the committees and will identify who will handle each part at next meeting.
Discussed the artwork for the hall.  Second grade is preparing the Heritage Bulletin Board.  3rd Grade will handle Dec/ January.
Will ask Miles to consider having a focus for class meetings be acceptable vocabulary to be used at school.   ie: retard is a dead word and has only negative connotations.

SEPTEMBER 2010

Basic Schools Meeting: September 8, 210

Diversity

Miles’s preferred focuses for committee: Cultural competency in curriculum, honoring of minorities, disenfranchised students.

Our Question: How can we include those who are differently-abled into our diversity awareness for the school?

• Provide titles of fiction and non-fiction books featuring students with special needs

• Make use of class meeting time to bring awareness and respect

• Change our wording from “ADHD kids to kids with ADHD” ect.

• March 3rd – Spread the Word to End the Word (retard) – Special Olympics

Heritage Night Prep.:

• Diversity Bulletin board - Kulwinder will orchestrate its revival.

• Flags – Display at Heritage Night.

• Art Work – Ask a grade level a month to share art /project from around the world. Prevents rush at end and allows for the art to be appreciated by more students for longer period of time.

• Second Grade – October, Third grade – December. Ask first if they would be willing to take November…
